Abia State Government Pledges Support for Teqball Development

Governor Dr. Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged his continued support for the development of Teqball in the state. Through his Commissioner for Sports, Obiora Ananaba, the Governor expressed his commitment to the sport at the kickoff of the 2024 Teqball World Championship Qualifiers at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

The Governor's decision to host the Qualifiers was influenced by Teqball's grassroots potential and its rapid acceptance among youths in the state. Ananaba noted that the sport has already gained significant attention from young people in the state, aligning with the government's vision of empowering youths and providing them with opportunities to excel.

The Commissioner expressed his hope that Abia State will become a hub for Teqball in the world, stating that the government is in discussions with the Federation to develop Teqball coaches in the state. 

The Vice President, Mr Ndudi Edede on behalf of the President Nigeria Teqball Federation, Engr. Habu Gumel praised the Abia State Government for their support. He noted that the state's Teqball is growing rapidly and Nigeria is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the sport.

The Qualifier will determine Nigeria's representatives in five categories for the World Teqball Championship, scheduled for November 2024. The categories include: men's and women's' singles, men's and Women's' doubles, and also mixed doubles. The venue for the Championship will be announced later this month by the World body FITEQ.

Teqball is already making a name for Nigeria in the international scene, with the nation's representative, Victor Oyemade, being voted the Most Valuable Player at the TEQBALL World Series in Quy Nhon, Vietnam. Oyemade is the Nigerian number one player in the sport and top seed at the ongoing Qualifiers. With the support of the Abia State Government and the Nigerian Teqball Federation, the future of Teqball in Nigeria look s bright.
